Does anyone really believe that the doing a board exam every 10 years limits disasters. I feel it is a sham in which people buy SESAP from the American College and memorize responses to questions. Does it help problem solving?

Dear D., This is a very difficult question to answer. Much has been said by my colleagues and the reality is that there are several factors that dictate when a surgeon would (not should) retire. Probably the financial status is the single most important factor, assuming that he or she is mentally and physically sound. The financial factor is becoming more important than ever. With surgeons making less and less, they need to work harder and longer to make up for the loss, and ensure a descent life after retirement. However, practice, particularly here in the US is not fun anymore and for that I would retire as soon as I can. S.

Младшая дочь прислала мне на телефон сообщение: «Greetingz from JFK airport in NY!».

По направлению научного центра IBM в Цюрихе (Швейцария) рождённая в Москве (Россия) выпускница университета Кейптауна (ЮАР) летит в Торонто (Канада) на конференцию по своей компьютерной науке.

Её немецкий жених из Мюнхена (Германия) остался на конференции в Нью-Йорке (США).

Мой сын, ещё один москвич с кейптаунскими дипломами, отправил жену к родителям в Тайпей (Тайвань) готовить китайскую половину свадьбы, а сам пакует багаж для отправки на новую работу в Ставанжер (Норвегия).

Нахожу удовольствие в мысленном перечислении заморских городов и стран – эдакое сказочное географическое разнообразие в судьбах наших детей.

Потом не удерживаюсь – беру в руки маленькую коробочку мобильника Нокия и звоню дочери из своего дома на Лимпоповщине прямо в зал транзитных пассажиров JFK airport in NY (США): «Привет, Оксик!» – сказочные прибабахи Бабки Яги стали рутинной реалией нашей жизни.
