In 1683 the huge Turkish army in 200 thousand people has besieged Vienna – a city on the banks of the Danube. The siege lasted almost 8 weeks. Garrison in 16 thousand people defended the city from the vastly superior enemy forces. The unified army of Christians under the command of Jan Sobieski came to the aid of the besieged. It included Poles, Lithuanians, Austrians, Bavarians, Saxons. Pope Innocent XI blessed this expedition.
