Из всех существующих биографий Черчилля я больше всего рекомендовал бы работу Клайва Понтинга. Занимая высокую должность в министерстве обороны, Понтинг во время Фолклендской войны организовал утечки информации в прессу, а позднее посвятил себя написанию исторических книг, и весьма успешно. Его острый ум был большой потерей для английской гражданской службы, но важным приобретением для исторической науки. Книга Джеффри Уиткрофта вышла слишком поздно, чтобы я успел прочесть ее до того, как закончил свое сочинение, но, судя по отзывам в США, она весьма высокого качества.
