I thought my life had stabilized when my partner and I were able to recruit a third surgeon to help us out with the load and improve the on call situation. «Partner» is a loose term, as in Ontario there is no advantage to practising in a group as a specialist, but we share an office and expenses associated with it and it is imperative that there be a close working relationship for good patient care. He had been here for over a decade before I came on the scene three years ago. There had been others before me but none had lasted much over a year, for sundry reasons.
Recently a nurse alleged that this fellow tried to kiss her against her will one evening two years ago, and reported him to the police. Last month I had the misfortune of seeing him marched out of the hospital in handcuffs. His face was ashen, and all he said to me was "tell B" (his wife). He was not even allowed to contact her to let her know what was going on». Короче, сестричка донесла на хирурга, что два года назад он против её желания попытался (обратите внимание, дамы и господа, только попытался!!!) поцеловать её… В прошлый месяц я видел этого бедолагу, выходящего из госпиталя в наручниках… Он успел только сказать мне: «Сообщи жене!» Ему даже не разрешили связаться с собственной женой и дать ей знать, что происходит. «He spent the next 24 hrs in a 7×7ft cell with no chair and no bed; the only place to sit was a toilet, and was given one chocolate bar. He was surrounded by drug addicts and prostitutes in the surrounding cells and deprived of any sleep». Он провёл следующие 24 часа в камере размерами примерно 2×2 метра, где не было ни кровати, ни стула, и где единственным сидячим местом был унитаз. Ему за это время выдали единственную палочку шоколада. В соседних камерах сидели наркоманы и проститутки. «He has been prohibited by the courts from setting foot in the hospital, effectively ending his practice here».
