Не стоит преувеличивать «тревожность» российской образованной элиты в XVIII веке. То было столетие уверенности. Дворяне гордились империей и самодержцем, считали себя благородной элитой общества, верили, что Россия – европейское государство, идущее по пути прогресса, хранили православную веру. И дворяне, и представители образованной элиты смотрели в будущее с уверенностью и оптимизмом.
